Update on my Rapid Share post

Some weeks ago, I wrote this post about Rapid Share. A few days after I posted it, I realized my blog was getting more visitors than usually, but I was not sure why. Ok, Rapid Share is a popular website, but I was pretty sure, this post was not the only reason for the increase. It turned out I was wrong.

When I did a search on Google on the words Rapid Share, my article was on the first page, ranking as nr. 6.

Rapid Share

Obviously, this go me very excited, which I why I started to look for the different factors which got me this rank. However, I was not sure why this article was so different from any other article I have been doing. Rapid Share was mentioned in the permalink, in the title, and several times throughout the post. But was this really enough to get me at this position? I was still not convinced, so I went to Digital Point to get some of the guys to take a look at it. You can find the thread here. Now here is where I got some exciting information. It turns out that RapidShare is the correct phrase which is why it has far more competition than the word Rapid Share. This guy Sweetfunny came up with these stats.

Shonky hit the nail on the head.

allintitle:rapidshare - 1.3 Million results
allintitle:rapid share - 16,100 results

allinanchor:rapidshare - 250,000 results
allinanchor:rapid share - 14,700 results

allinurl:rapidshare - 782,000 results
allinurl:rapid share - 9,550 results

“rapidshare” - 24.5 Million results
“rapid share” - 873,000 results

As you can see, having the space is considerably easier to rank for then the non-space version.

This makes it very clear, why it is much easier to get a good rank on this specific word. Find a good keyword, which easily can be misspelled, and use it several times in the post. Combine this with a good search engine optimized blog and you are on you way to the top of Google. An easy way to get more visitors. However, this is never something I would use intentionally, since grammatical mistakes and misspelling is nothing I want to stive for. But the possibility is there. SEO and SEM has really caught my attention, so you can be sure I will write more on this topic in the future. Stay tuned.

This is not the ONLY way to do it…
…….It is possible to go into the code and place your article as the FIRST on EVERY post listing if you REALLY want to.

Well I am sure there are several different ways to go ahead with this. This is just a very nice experience, which I felt like sharing with everyone. Hopefully some of you will find it useful. Well I guess it is possible to place the article first on every post listing, but it is not something I would recommend. It does sound a bit like some blackhat SEO. I am not sure.

Too bad Gymbo didn’t leave a URL to see if he can back up his claim…..

    Joost,
Actually I would like to have seen some kind of proof as well. Although he is not mentioning that he actually has used this method, he does seem to very sure about it. But even a proof would not make me change my mind. I like my whitehat style :)
