Problems with PlugIM

After reading this article about PlugIM over at Linkrain, I decided to go and sign up. PlugIM is a Social Content Network, just like Digg, Reddit, ShoutWire, etc. When you sign up, it is possible to add your RSS feed, so your new articles are posted at PlugIM automatically. You also have the possibility to add your AdSense pub-id, and make money from the articles you are posting. The topics over at PlugIM are more focused on SEO, business, marketing, etc. The concept is similar to digg, here you just “Plug” the stories you like. The design of the page is neat and even though it still is fairly new, it seems to be rather popular. So far I was pleased. So when I signed up this morning, I posted one of my articles. Now, some hours later, I went back to see how things were going. Going in to my profile I got this picture:

Some time ago, I was using kontera´s in-text ads, so the first thing that hit me, was the top link “personal data”. As you can see, this link is double underlined. When hovering over the link, I got this picture:

Surprise! Clicking the link took me to something completely different than my personal data. PlugIM is not the first site, having problems with kontera ads. If you don’t limit the places kontera can put their ads, they can turn any word or phrase into a link. At Kontera´s website, you can read more about, how to limit the ads. I stopped using kontera´s add some time ago, because of several different factors. Personally, I don’t find these type of adds very appropriate for blogs and specially not for websites like PlugIM. But since PlugIM is sharing the AdSense revenue, I guess they need some kind of second income source, which then is Kontera. However, it is still a great site for interesting news.
